Equipment

  • 1 Ninja Max Air Fryer (or any air fryer)

Ingredients

  • 1 small head cauliflower cut into florets
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

  • Prepare the Cauliflower Florets: Start by washing the cauliflower thoroughly under cold running water to remove any dirt or debris.
Pat the cauliflower dry using a clean kitchen towel or paper towels—removing excess moisture is key to achieving crispy florets.
Trim away the green leaves and the thick stem, then cut the cauliflower into evenly sized bite-sized florets.
Even sizing ensures that all pieces cook uniformly in the air fryer.
  • Preheat the Air Fryer: Before cooking, preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 3–5 minutes.
Preheating helps the cauliflower start cooking immediately, promoting a golden, crispy exterior while keeping the inside tender.
Most air fryers have a preheat function, but if yours doesn’t, simply run it empty at the cooking temperature for a few minutes.
  • Season the Cauliflower Florets: Place the prepared cauliflower florets in a large mixing bowl.
Drizzle them with 2 tablespoons of extra-virgin olive oil, ensuring each piece is lightly coated.
Sprinkle ½ teaspoon of smoked paprika, ½ teaspoon of garlic powder, ½ teaspoon of kosher salt, and ¼ teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper evenly over the florets.
Use clean hands or a large spoon to gently toss the cauliflower until every floret is fully coated in the seasoning mixture, giving them an even flavor and a touch of smokiness from the paprika.
  • Arrange Florets in the Air Fryer Basket: Transfer the seasoned cauliflower into the air fryer basket.
Arrange the florets in a single layer, making sure they aren’t overcrowded.
Overcrowding can prevent even cooking and reduce crispiness.
If needed, cook in batches to maintain optimal air circulation and texture.
  • Cook the Cauliflower: Set the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) and cook the cauliflower for 12–15 minutes.
Halfway through the cooking time, carefully shake the basket or use tongs to turn the florets.
This step ensures even browning on all sides and helps each floret achieve that perfect golden exterior.
Depending on your air fryer model, you may need slightly more or less time—look for a tender interior and a lightly crispy surface as your guide.
  • Check for Doneness: After 12–15 minutes, test a piece with a fork.
The cauliflower should be tender on the inside but still have a slight bite, while the edges are golden and slightly crispy.
If you prefer extra crispiness, you can cook for an additional 2–3 minutes, keeping a close eye to avoid burning.
  • Serve and Enjoy: Once cooked to perfection, transfer the cauliflower to a serving plate.
For an extra touch of flavor, you can sprinkle a little extra smoked paprika or a pinch of freshly ground black pepper on top.
Serve immediately as a healthy side dish, a low-carb snack, or part of your meal prep.
These cauliflower florets pair wonderfully with grilled proteins, salads, or dips like hummus or yogurt-based sauces.
  • Optional Storage Tips: If you have leftovers, allow them to cool completely before storing.
Place them in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 3 days.
To reheat, pop them back in the air fryer at 375°F (190°C) for 3–5 minutes to restore crispiness, or warm them gently in the oven.
Avoid microwaving if you want to maintain the crunchy texture.

Notes

  • Use a small or medium cauliflower head to ensure even cooking.
  • Cut florets into uniform sizes for consistent tenderness and crispiness.
  • Pat cauliflower dry before tossing in oil to prevent sogginess.
  • Shake the air fryer basket halfway through cooking for even browning.
  • Adjust seasoning according to taste; smoked paprika gives a subtle smokiness.
  • Serve immediately for best texture; leftovers can be reheated in the air fryer.
  • This recipe is naturally low-carb, plant-based, and gluten-free.
